Young Enterprise North West is pleased to announce local entrepreneur and businessman Keith Curran is supporting Young Enterprise North West and the Company Programme through offering his time and support to the East Cheshire Area Board and a participating team at Wilmslow High School.
When asked Keith to comment on the Company Programme from his experience last academic year as the Guest Speaker at the Cheshire and Warrington Strategic Final, Keith provided us with the following quote:
My philosophy in life is ...."whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you are absolutely right"
But it hasn't always been that way... in fact I would be amazed if there has ever been anyone believing from the day they were born, that they were capable of achieving anything if they wanted to.
So, what prompts you to believing that you can achieve anything and triggers an attitude of taking the appropriate life changing actions to achieve what ever you want?
Well one definite answer is the Young Enterprise Company Programme.
Yes, it's all about establishing and running a business, but for me the Programme sparks the realisation for many pupils that they can achieve anything if they really want to.
I absolutely support the "classic" subjects such as maths, English, etc. but the Company Programme for me, represents many of the practical lessons of life.
This is where you really get to practise and fine tune "life" skills in conjunction with those learnt in the classroom. Naturally you will learn a lot about business acumen but what is often lost is that the vast majority of business success is based around practical interpersonal skill sets and these are exactly what you experience by default when you embark on the Young Enterprise Company Programme.
The Company Programme is often a very positive life-changing experience for those who embark on it as not only does it teach so much about "Life" but for many it highlights just what can be achieved beyond our school programme... if you really want to.
It took me over 35 years to realise my true potential and start to establish my own successful and very satisfying businesses.
I often wonder how different things would have been if there was a Young Enterprise Company Programme when I was at school.
Much of what I had discovered and experienced by 35, I would have known at half that age and personally for me I see that as a very positive thing as my true potential would have been unlocked much earlier and enabled me to maximised life to the full.
For those who have experienced the Company Programme you can't help but wonder why this is not part of the national curriculum. Trust me it's every bit as important as anything you will learn in the classroom and not just because you may go on to have your own business but because of the valuable life skills that you experience and develop as a result.
Young Enterprise North West would like to thank Keith for his support last year and the support he has pledged in the coming academic year and we look forward to a long and fruitful professional working relationship with him.
