Uniting individuals
UNITIX is the name of the Young Enterprise Company from St. Wilfrid’s Church of England High School in Blackburn, who are this years winners of the East Lancashire Dragons Den Competition.

The company consists of nine students from St. Wilfrid’s 6th form college, who chose their company name to signify the UNITING of nine enterprising individuals (IX being nine in roman numerals), who all have the same shared vision to succeed in their young enterprise business ventures, and have great deal of fun along the way.

Four students from the Company presented their business plan to the Dragons. They described their company’s mission and key objectives, and their aim to “balance the needs of customers, shareholders, the local community and the environment”. They presented their development plans and marketing of their initial product, a cleverly designed range of protective socks for mobile phones and other electronic devices, which they’ve aptly named ‘SOX’.

They impressed the judges with their prototype SOX, complete with marketing materials, a production plan and forecast sales figures. The team also have longer term initiatives planned, involving a healthy eating campaign in school and organising a school talent competition ‘Wilfrid’s Got Talent’.

Upon hearing the news of the team’s success, Ray Melia, the teams Business Advisor, and employee of United Utilities said, “This is absolutely fantastic news, the team have worked very hard to get their company to such an advanced stage in such a short time, and I’m sure the Dragons’ investment in them will be put to very good use. This is a great start to what I believe will be a very successful and rewarding Young Enterprise experience for them.” Ray added, “The Dragons will no doubt have a keen eye for a sound business investment; so I’m now at the front of the queue to buy some UNITIX shares!”
