The journey students undertake on the Company Programme is extremely rewarding but not always an easy one.
This is particularly true for the companies in West Cumbria this year.
Flooding in West Cumbria in November 2009 brought devastation to the towns of Workington and Cockermouth and for many a 5 minute journey to work or school became a 2 hour journey due to bridge damage and destruction.
The December West Cumbria Trade Fair was held in Workington town centre, normally a 10 minute road journey from Netherhall School, Maryport, where the winning team "Teenage Scribbles" come from. As the road bridges were no longer usable most of the team and their equipment had to take the 2 hours detour to and from Workington with the other members taking the packed emergency train over the only surviving bridge into the town.
The next Trade Fair is scheduled for Feb 2010 and as the temporary road bridge is not planned to be open until May 2010 the team are looking forward to another exciting journey to the venue.
